I played Lineage2 and Guild Wars does resemble it abit art style wise, it is completely different game play wise. Lineage2 is a true MMORPG with all the good and bad that intails and its a true 'PvP' MMORPG the only one left really I think. It also set up as a territorial siege game where guilds fight over actual realestate.

It is a great game with a very competetive and balanced PvP system where you drop items and such. However, it has been seriously hampered by cheats, bots and farmers, more so then any other game I have ever played (except maybe diablo2 hehe). Its built on the Unreal2 engine which was a mistake because its too wide open allowing many open an known expliots, combine this with a truly savage competitive play style (where you get items by killing others - not a silly ladder to brag about in gym class) and you can see where things can ge very frustrating very fast.

In lineage2 the farmers often farm YOU for items, its that kind of very dark world, where you can trust noone, and always keep one eye open, very much for the hardcore only. It would be very difficult for anyone to become competitive at this point without alotta help from higher experienced players

Also as has been mentioned it is a true "ole" school "hard core" MMORPG, and we all know what that means - GRIND GRIND GRIND.

Fun game though worth checkin out if your looking for a seriously hardcore MMORPG experience its really your only option with "real" PvP.

played L2 since closed beta got a 49 PR on kain with Emi and theca but quite many months ago, sold my 17mill and my acount for a little over 200 US. Loved the politics clan wise.. as well as wars. i still use this name in hopes of running into some old mates.

xp loss was a real bitch, one death can set you back hours if not days. best mmo grinder i have ever played.

edit: i never broke out of the L2 UI.

Sometimes grind is standable, but the grind in L2 was so much that I felt like I'd rather go do homework than play anymore of that. I mean, it took me something like 4 days of farming those stupid spores to get enough money to buy the next bow up...

the good part of L2 was the characters, armors and weapons graphics
the designers did an awesome work (way better than GW IMO)

Yes, if its one thing I liked about Lineage ][, its the character/armor designs... Totally reminds me of the anime Record of Lodoss War... The heavy plate armors look very intimidating, like a highly stylized cross between regular armor and Escaflowne mecha, and the female characters are very attractive... All the faces you pick for your characters are attractive (except for maybe, Orc or Dwarf males hehe)... unlike Guildwars, in which 70% of the face selections are butt ugly... I also liked how each race moved in their own way and had their own language ^.^ (I loved the way Dark Elves ran compared to the rest... kinda like Avicara or Tengu - sure wish my R/W ran like that ^.^). the bad thing about the designs tho, is that there's no helmet skins

The gameplay I can do without.... If its not the grind, its the constant pking... I don't know how many times my low lvl character got PKed everytime by some high lvl griefer once i step out of the newbie "protected" zone... it really makes you want to quit playing... Kinda glad GW is "instanced" like PSO...

L2 is so boring. How can you even stand to level? Doesn't it take like 1 year of full grinding to be competitive? And by full grinding, I mean 8+ hours a day nonstop.
When I played it, I couldn't get past level 20, because by then, I was getting less than 10% an hour

well you know there are actually private servers with high rates
which means you can have a competitive character 10, 20, 50, 100 and even 500 times faster than on official servers

of course there are less people and the game is less competitive
but it's fun

Lineage II: The Moronic Chronicle

Worst mistake this gamer ever made.

My clan was level 3, I had all the high end shit going, and it...simply...died...from...pointless penis envy and pissing contests.

Worst game I ever spent time/money on.

I only played L2 because the armor looked awesome. =/

...GW needs to hire the guy who designed them. Our armor looks so ugly...

Was in the beta, then bought it at release. What got me was the pk'ing, you would literally HAVE to run round looking over your shoulders. When you got killed you would lose experience, and possibly be deleveled, and over i think level 10 you would lose 1 item out of your inventory. Items made ppl gods (and were hideously expensive), so it was a big deal to lose them. I also think the higher level you were the greater chance you had of losing more items, wouldn't know, got ganked too much and never got that high.

Kept waiting around hoping they would change the way the pvp worked...
(if you killed someone who didnt attack you back, your name would turn red, and everyone would be free to kill you. if you attacked someone and they attacked you back your names would be purple, and change back to white after a short while. I wanted them to change it so that if you got killed while you name was white, you wouldn't lose any items, you would lose xp, but wouldnt be deleveled. by the way, we're not talking some sissy stand there and be killed, we're talking about malicious bastards slaughtering newbies, as in one hit one kill, you would sometimes not even see it coming.)

that was my one and only dislike about the game, other than that, i loved it the gfx were awesome, and the grind was difficult, obtaining items was also hard, so yeah it was great.
